You have now
installed and set up your PDA and GPRS Modem Card
Now, let's
try out the card ! |
|
11
From the Start Menu
select Running Voice
 |
12
The card will register
with the GSM network

|
|
13
Select the sixth icon
on bottom for Data functions. It will probably open to this default
page - But, whatever page it opens to will be in cache and it will not
attempt a connection to the internet yet.
 |
14
Tap on the URL window
and enter a new URL
I suggest doing a
bandwidth test to make certain all is running properly. Many places to
do this on the web - a simple one that works well on a PDA is 2wire.
For a Bandwidth
test go to www.2wire.com
The connection process
will begin

|
|
15
The first time you
connect the system will ask for some information.
 |
16
For T Mobile and AT&T
leave the fields blank and check the Save Password box.
Click OK

If you are using Cingular:
User name:
WIXDC001@W5.MYCINGULAR.COM
Password:
ZXY203DC9K0402
Check the
Save Password Box |
|
17
The connection process
will continue with the two arrows on top moving back and forth.
 |
18
When the connection
occurs the two arrows on top will become stationary pointing away from each
other and a speedometer will appear to the left of the arrows. This
speedometer gives you relative data rate information.
Tap the button that
says "Speed Meter"
 |
|
19
Tap once on the
speedometer - a data information window will replace the URL window - Tap
the chevrons in the lower right on this window and a graph will appear
showing data flow.
 |
20
Dependent upon
connection this test will take from one to three minutes. When the
test is done the graph will drop off and the screen might refresh.
Tap the chevrons in the
lower right of this window and the graph will close. Then tap on the
speedometer and your URL window will reappear.
 |
|
21
Scroll down in the
window to see the test results.
Our testing and the
testing of our customers gives us the following data about what to expect
concerning data rates.
T-Mobile as a general
rule gives the best throughput and their Tech Support staff is superior.
-
T-Mobile - between 38 -
46 Kbps
-
AT&T - between 24
- 36 Kbps
-
Cingular - Varies based
upon location in USA
 |
22
Tap on the two arrows
and tap the disconnect button to break the data connection.

|
|
23
Tap the phone icon -
the phone comes back online. Insert your headset into the jack on the
top and your ready for phone calls.

Play around with the Software - For
example use the second icon the bottom and you are presented with your
Contact list. This will allow you to dial anyone in your contact list.
Other icons manage call lists, email and speed dialing. In the options
area you can select any wav file you like for ringer and other ways to
personalize your Pocket PC.
Enjoy ! |
